The dogs, characters, memories and humans behind Woofy Guru
Woofy Guru started with one very simple truth:
Dogs make life better.
They make us laugh when we need it. They get us outside. They remind us to enjoy things while they’re happening. They teach us about loyalty, resilience, curiosity, forgiveness — and the importance of a really good nap.
I’ve shared my life with many dogs over the years, and every one of them left something behind.
Woofy Guru is a little bit of all of them.
And then, of course, there’s Woofy.
Meet Woofy
Woofy is the fluffy, bespectacled face of Woofy Guru — part dog, part life coach, part investigator and completely convinced humans make things more complicated than necessary.
He’s curious.
He’s encouraging.
He’s occasionally sarcastic.
And he has opinions.
Lots of opinions.
You might find him investigating strange human behavior as Detective Woofy, offering questionable-but-surprisingly-useful life advice, discussing dog logic, solving mysteries or simply reminding you that perhaps the world isn’t ending and you should go find something enjoyable to do.
Woofy represents the heart of this brand:
Enjoy your dog. Enjoy your life. Don’t take everything quite so seriously.
And Then There’s Smoky
Every dog with big ideas needs someone willing to question them.
Enter Smoky.
Smoky is Woofy’s feline counterpart and occasional co-host — observant, dry, skeptical and generally unimpressed by unnecessary enthusiasm.
Woofy brings the optimism.
Smoky brings the commentary.
Together, they explore dogs, humans, life and the many baffling decisions people make every day.
You’ll see the two of them together in Woofy Wisdom Radio and other adventures around Woofy Guru.
Smoky would probably like it noted that he is not Woofy’s sidekick.
We have noted his objection.
❤️ The Forever Pack
Long before there was a Woofy Guru, there were the real dogs.
A lot of them.
Different breeds. Different personalities. Different chapters of life.
Some were goofy. Some were stubborn. Some were gentle. Some seemed to know exactly what I needed before I did.
And all of them mattered.
Chewie
Chewie still pops up around Woofy Guru from time to time.
His personality, expressions and very dog-like opinions make him far too good a character to retire completely.
You’ll occasionally see him appearing in videos inspired by the sorts of things dogs would probably say if somebody finally handed them the microphone.
Leo
Leo appears in Woofy Guru videos too, including some of our relaxing and dog-focused content.
Like Chewie, he remains part of the story.
Because one of the lovely things about creating Woofy Guru is that the dogs we’ve loved don’t completely disappear from our lives.
We still tell their stories.
We still remember their quirks.
We still laugh about the ridiculous things they did.
And sometimes we turn those memories into something new.
And All the Dogs Who Came Before
Leo and Chewie aren’t the whole story.
I’ve been fortunate enough to share my life with many dogs over the years, and each one contributed something to the way I think about dogs today.
They weren’t content.
They weren’t a niche.
They were family.
Woofy Guru exists because of a lifetime of loving dogs like them.
This is their pack, too.
And Somewhere Behind the Dogs… There’s Me
Hi, I’m Debi.
I’m the human behind Woofy Guru.
I’m a lifelong dog lover, idea collector, creator and firm believer that adulthood could benefit from a few more walks, more play, more curiosity and significantly less overthinking.
Mostly, though, I’m the person behind the curtain creating the stories, videos, articles and assorted Woofy nonsense you see around here.
Woofy gets most of the attention.
I’m okay with that.

Woofy Guru has evolved, but the dogs have always been the constant.
